A passage is a place of transition and movement, a place that leads us from one area to another. A passage implies that remaining where one is does not have to be the only option; you can transition from where you are, one step at a time, moving on towards a new place.
I love this fresh way of thinking about “passages” of Scripture. Scripture is not merely a wealth of information but a place of transformation – of passages that lead me from one place in life to another. God uses Scripture passages to awaken me to the fact that remaining where I am, my current place in life, is not the only option; I can transition from who and where I am, one step at a time, engaging my whole self in a passage that moves me on towards a new place, God’s place.
Thank You, God, for “passages” of Scripture.
Gary! What a pleasant and weird surprise. Dan and I have been talking about you and Beth this week and just generally wondering how you are. We never did get a chance to say our goodbyes. We hope you are full of joy in your new place of service. This is such a great post. You have said with such clarity something I have been feeling recently. I love the play on the word ‘passages’ – how fitting. It is so true that God can take us on such a journey without ever leaving our quiet time chair. Passage is a perfect way of describing my current spiritual location. Thanks so much for the post. Send us a line sometime! Becky Baylies
We went hiking today on Mount Cheaha in the Talledega National Forest. Picnicked near a waterfall, climbed around on some rocks, took in some stunning views. It’s been a great start to our new life here.
Thanks for taking the time to read my posts. I’m “recommitting” to staying faithful to writing…
Oh, and pass along a “hello” and a hug to Lois. Tell her that Kyle is “enjoying the off season.” 😉
Ok I will! Although you really blew it there during the last part of the season. I guess it was the move and all. 🙂 Will look forward to the messages God has through your blog, Gary! Becky
I always love coming here to see your God inspired words, bound by language but breathed by the Spirit.
Where are you now? I haven’t been to 97West in awhile.
Our family now lives in Jacksonville, Alabama – been here almost a month. I’m pastor at Mountain View Church in Anniston. It’s been a pretty awesome ride – very grateful. 🙂
